Biography

Benoit leva is a french artist who lives in Auvergne.

He completed his studies in Paris as designer, and later on was hired as an art director at a television channel in the French capital. His love for stop motion started five years ago, when he felt that he needed to get away from the screen, as he didn’t want to spend entire days behind his desk : « I was longing for something more craft-like, a physical job – I looked at the technique of stop motion as a combination of graphic design and manual creation »

Originally he started experimenting with paper forms in his works, which then he replaced with other organic and natural basic elements : « I try to keep my ideas as pure as possible and realize them without adding superfluous effects. »

Benoit Leva is working for several prestigious brands including Hermès, Prada, Dior, The NewYorker, Diptyque... which give him "carte blanche" to create videos.

Inspiration

The big themes of his work are the passing of time, movement and nature.

He uses for his creations natural materials such as leaves, stones etc... He likes to keep the authentic aspect and pure of the materials.

His inspirations are nature and the Land Art movement, especially Andy Goldsworthy with his sculptures integrated into natural sites.

He likes the purity of minimalism to highlight a strong idea.

"That's enough to know how to read the shape and the signs that nature has left, or to change your point of view on it"
